More info on the project

Trying to dig a rectangular pit to make plans for construction of a workbench which will be elevated up and down, we ended up making our creation with the number 0144. While we were using an excavator with a hydraulic hammer, the hole that we were digging as deep it gets as oblique direction towards the center has because of the stoned ground. This happens because the hydraulic hammer of the excavator touches the excavation at the side so you cannot break the edge of the pit and as deeper the hole goes, it moves towards the centre. Therefore, we decided to make a hammer breaker chisel without moving the vehicle from its place in order to make the perfect rectangular hole.

Firstly, we copied the upper part of the old breaker chisel to make it fit on our hydraulic hammer. Then, we created a ratchet mechanism, which is moved by a hydraulic piston. When the piston opens and closes once the bottom side of the chisel spins in 30 ⁰ degrees. The piston is moved by pressing a button on the excavator. Therefore, the user is able to set the position of the chisel he wants to hit with the hydraulic hammer the spot that he could not hit previously.

Finally, at the bottom side of the construction we made the final part of our chisel, which is wider than the hydraulic hammer. In this way, we managed to create a chisel that can be spun so the user of the excavator can hit the spots that he needs, something that was impossible using the common chisel. Undoubtedly, there are many other uses of this particular structure however; we used it in terms of covering our own needs. Certainly, our structure needs some improvement but we are sure that it can function quite well and be the answer to our problem.
