More info on the project

Making the racing chair for the car that we transform, we needed to make some lumps on its aluminum sheet metal that give strength to our creation as well as a better appearance. At the particular case, after cutting the aluminum sheet metal to the desired shape, we made some holes on it to decrease the weight and give a nice appearance to it.

Therefore, some weak parts were arisen that decrease the tolerance of our chair. Thus, to prevent having this disadvantage, we made a die that when the press is squeezed; we move the material, which is parametrically located around the holes managing a longer tolerance. The problem that we faced is that the holes on the chair were in various places and that made it hard for us, as the hydraulic press could not fit them in most cases. This made it impossible to press efficiently and vertically the particular spot. Therefore, we decided to make a hydraulic tool that will do this task.

Firstly, we started making a hydraulic cylinder. On the hydraulic cylinder, we made some threads to place the molds and to be able to make holes in different sizes. The machine for the molds that we made at the current moment gives us the ability to make dimple holes in 80mm, 70mm, 60mm, 50mm, 40mm, 30mm and 25mm size. In addition, we can adjust the molds for oval shaped holes. Using the proper dies, our machine can yet drill the sheet metal and then dimple it.

Finally, the piston we made can exert 12tons power and this gives us the chance to work on sheet metals of various thickness. On our machine, we put a hook so that it can hang from a crane and the user will not bear all the weight. In conclusion, we are extremely satisfied about our tool’s function and we are looking forward to using it on our potential creations.
